Illustration for Minivan and 3-Row SUV Detail Cost

The extra money pays for hours: listed times run from about 1.5 hours for a basic interior to 6 hours for a full detail. A third row means more seats, more floor, more seat tracks and more places for crumbs to hide.

Why the third row costs more

Size alone explains part of it. One Northwest Indiana detailer charges $60 more for a minivan’s basic interior and $75 more for its deep-clean package. A San Diego detailer adds $30 to its standard and complete details and $60 to its luxury one.

The rest is condition. Detailers price kid and pet wear separately. One Virginia shop pitches its best-selling package at the minivan you take the kids to school in, or the car your pets ride in. Another detailer prices the extras on their own:

  • Child car seat detail: $49, about 30 minutes
  • Pet hair removal: $79, about 45 minutes
  • Stain extraction: $99, about 1 hour

Our guide to pet hair surcharges explains how detailers grade hair.

How a bill climbs toward $750

Say you book a San Diego detailer’s complete detail for a minivan, which starts at $379. Add seat shampooing at $20 a seat for seven seats, or $140. Add an hour of pet hair removal at $40 per 30 minutes, or $80. The total is about $599, before tax and before any tip.

So $750 isn’t impossible. But it’s above every published minivan price we found, including a $629-and-up luxury package with a paint polish. If you paid that much, the bill should show what you got. Ask for it itemized. If work was missed, our guide to getting a detail fixed shows how to ask.

What a cheaper visit skips

Lower tiers mostly vacuum and wipe. The Northwest Indiana detailer’s basic interior covers vacuuming, wiping the dash and console, and cleaning glass and door jambs. Its deep clean adds hot water extraction for carpets and fabric seats, stain work, leather conditioning and odor treatment. For how tiers compare on a sedan, see cheap vs premium interior details.

If the van mostly needs crumbs gone, the basic tier is enough. If the seats are stained or smell, pay for extraction once rather than a cheap visit twice.

Ways to keep the price down

  • Take out car seats, toys and trash before the detailer arrives.
  • Book the package your van actually needs and tell the detailer about pets or spills up front.
  • Ask about multi-car deals. One Maryland detailer advertises savings of up to $110 for doing two full details at the same time.
